 Big Creek Watershed
The Big Creek watershed is approximately 37 square miles in size. Big Creek joins the Cuyahoga River in the City of Cleveland south of Harvard Ave., about 7 miles upstream of Lake Erie. The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is a resident of this watershed and embraces the natural features of the creek throughout its park displays.

The District's Regional Intercommunity Drainage Evaluation (RIDE) Study evaluated Big Creek and its major tributaries at a watershed scale for several reasons:
  • Big Creek provides intercommunity drainage within portions of eight communities: Brook Park, Brooklyn, Cleveland, Linndale, Middleburg Heights, North Royalton, Parma, and Parma Heights.
  • Approximately 99 percent of the watershed lies within the District Service Area.
  • Interdependencies exist among the 41 drainage problem areas in the modeled Big Creek drainage system, requiring a watershed-wide approach to properly diagnose these problems and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Several tributaries to Big Creek within the intracommunity drainage system are represented in the Big Creek Watershed evaluation because they significantly affect intercommunity drainage.
