 Cuyahoga Valley Interceptor Operational Evaluation and Inspection
The District's Cuyahoga Valley Interceptor (CVI) Operational Evaluation and Inspection Project will evaluate the CVI system to determine if the system is functioning as originally designed and to assure system structural integrity and hydraulic capacity. The CVI was constructed to transport separate sanitary sewage from Greater Cleveland's south and southeast suburban areas to the District's Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant. The CVI system includes the CVI mainline, several trunk sewers and the CVI lift station. The CVI mainline was constructed between June 1977 and August 1985 and the trunk sewers were constructed between 1977 and 1993.

The CVI fully or partially serves twenty-two (22) communities, including Brecksville, Broadview Heights, Brooklyn Heights, Cuyahoga Heights, Garfield Heights, Independence, Maple Heights, Oakwood, Seven Hills, Valley View and Walton Hills in Cuyahoga County; and Bath Township, Boston Heights, Hudson, Macedonia, Northfield, Northfield Center Township, Richfield, Richfield Township, Sagamore Hills Township, Twinsburg and Twinsburg Township in Summit County.

The major tasks of the CVI Operational Evaluation and Inspection Project include:
  • Hydraulic capacity evaluation of the CVI system employing flow monitoring and modeling tools;
  • Structural inspection and condition assessment of the CVI mainline and trunk sewers;
  • Generation of a collection system map, in electronic format, for the CVI tributary area; and
  • Establishment of peak flow limitations (PFLs) for CVI tributary communities for inclusion in the Community Discharge Permits
The CVI Operational Evaluation and Inspection Project commenced in June 2004 with an estimated duration of 15 to 18 months.
