Recycling resources new.gif

Below are links to local recycling organizations and events based on common recyclable or reusable items. Thanks to the Cuyahoga Solid Waste District for these references.
Environmentally responsible citizens believe that people can control their impact on the earth and its atmosphere with even small actions like recycling paper. The pay off is a less wasteful economy and a culture that respects how all things in nature are connected and dependent on one another.

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, the region¿s wastewater-treatment authority, takes environmental awareness very seriously. It frequently educates the public about taking responsibility to help protect the area¿s natural water resources, and the fish and other aquatic life they contain.

Here are some basic things you can do to promote a healthy environment and a greener lifestyle:
  • Capture rainwater runoff to water plants or wash pets.
  • Use low-phosphorous detergent to wash cars.
  • Don¿t pour oil or paint down drains.
  • Don¿t flush medicine down the toilet.
  • Use a lawn mower that is manual, electric, or rechargeable to reduce gas emissions.
  • Walk or bike more to save gas, reduce gas emissions, and improve your health.
  • Use reusable grocery bags to help reduce waste in landfills.
  • Recycle aluminum cans and plastic containers.
  • Reduce paper waste by paying your bills online.
  • Grill outside to conserve energy.
  • Plant deciduous trees, which shed their leaves in fall, near your house. As they grow, the trees¿ leaves will shade your home from the sun in warm weather and their bare branches will let sunlight through during winter months. These factors help reduce utility bills.
  • Pay attention to your water heaters. You can reduce your energy bills and carbon emissions by 25% simply by reducing the temperature of your hot water heater to 120 degrees, wrapping the water heater in an insulating blanket, and by insulating some of your hot and cold water pipes.
  • Save water and energy by hand washing dishes instead of using the electric dishwasher, especially for small loads.
  • Purchase an eco-friendly automobile (a hybrid, biodiesel, or electric), which you can also claim on your federal taxes.
