I-90 lane closure between MLK and Eddy for sewer project
Posted May 11, 2009

Dugway East Interceptor Relief Sewer project to alter traffic patterns beginning May 18 for 140 days

Cleveland
- The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) is ready to begin the Dugway East Interceptor Relief Sewer (DEIRS) project to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) along Dugway Brook; this project will temporarily close a single eastbound lane on I-90.

The first phase of this project will involve a connection to the Easterly Interceptor, which requires closure of the outermost eastbound lane of I-90 between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Eddy Road. The three remaining eastbound I-90 lanes and the Eddy Road exit will remain open throughout this period and this project is not expected to affect westbound traffic. The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 18, 2009, and continue for 140 days through October 15.

In addition to the Easterly Interceptor connection near I-90 and subsequent lane closure, NEORSD is adding two new -- and modifying nine existing -- regulators and two major flow diversion structures. The District is also constructing collection sewers at Arlington, Hart and Gray Avenues.

Construction will also occur along Thornhill Drive, Arlington Avenue, Gray Avenue and Hart Avenue. Area residents may experience some delays but will be notified by mail approximately one week in advance of expected interruptions.

The purpose of the DEIRS installation is to reduce combined sewer overflow (CSO) volume in the area from 85 million gallons to 21 million gallons per year. This project is part of the District's Long Term Control Plan, which includes the construction of gigantic storage tunnels designed to hold combined wastewater and stormwater during heavy rains, reducing overflows into area waterways. The area's combined sewer overflow volume will be reduced further upon construction of the Dugway Storage Tunnel.
