Mill Creek is a small tributary to the Cuyahoga River. It originates in the vicinity of Beachwood, flows in a southwesterly direction and joins the Cuyahoga River approximately 11 miles later.
The Mill Creek Watershed drains portions of the cities of Cleveland, Cuyahoga Heights, Garfield Heights, Maple Heights, Warrensville Heights, Shaker Heights, Beachwood and the villages of North Randall and Highland Hills.
This 19.5 square mile watershed is home to Cuyahoga County's tallest waterfall, the Mill Creek Falls, at 45 feet tall. Approximately 62 percent of the watershed is comprised of medium-density residential development, with a small fraction (less than 1 percent) of high-density residential development. About 21 percent of the watershed contains commercial, industrial and/or institutional land uses.
The District's Regional Intercommunity Drainage Evaluation (RIDE) Study evaluated Mill Creek and its major tributaries at a watershed scale. For information about the Mill Creek Watershed and the RIDE Study findings, please contact Jeffrey Duke at 216-881-6600.
