Board of Trustees elects officers for 2009-2010 Posted June 19, 2009
Darnell Brown and Mayor Dean DePiero reelected President and Secretary, respectively, Mayor Gary Starr elected Vice President
Cleveland - The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Board of Trustees re-elected Darnell Brown as President and Mayor Dean DePiero as Secretary. Mayor Gary W. Starr has been elected Vice President and replaces outgoing Board Vice President Mayor Thomas J. Longo.
Longo, mayor of Garfield Heights, has served on the Board since 1988. He is not seeking re-election this fall and will relinquish his Board seat at that time. His replacement will be chosen by the Suburban Council of Governments.
Starr, mayor of Middleburg Heights since 1981, is currently serving his fourth term on the NEORSD Board of Trustees and represents the District's 60 suburban communities. He has previously served as President, Vice President and Secretary of the Board throughout his 20-year tenure.
Brown was appointed to the Board by former Cleveland Mayor Michael White in September, 2001, and currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for the City of Cleveland. He previously served as NEORSD Board President for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.
DePiero, mayor of Parma since 2004, was appointed to the Board by the Cuyahoga County Commissioners in March, 2007. He previously served as NEORSD Board Secretary for 2008-2009.
NEORSD has undergone many changes in the last few years and the re-election of Brown and DePiero - and election of Starr, a longtime Board member, as Vice President - will provide consistency and maintain continuity for the Board.
The seven-member Board governs the District and is appointed by three different entities: the Mayor of Cleveland appoints three members, the Suburban Council of Governments appoints three and the Cuyahoga County Board of Commissioners appoints one. Board appointees serve five-year terms.
