The purpose of the Valley Belt Gravity Sewer Project is to construct a gravity sewer that will bypass a portion of the Brooklyn Heights Branch of CVI containing an aging pump station and force main. The pump station is located on Valley Belt Road under the First Energy high tower transmission lines. The bypass will allow the District to decommission the pump station and its associated force main. The District estimates that replacing the pump station and force main with a new gravity sewer will prove less costly in the long term than continuing to maintain the pump station and force main. It will also eliminate the potential for service disruptions, which could occur in the event of pump station failure.
It is anticipated that construction will be achieved using trenchless methods; however, open-cut methods could be utilized over short distances at each end of the new sewer.
