Sewer work to close West 10th Street in the Flats
Posted May 20, 2009

Traffic restricted to local access only beginning May 20 through July

Cleveland
- The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) is continuing sewer infrastructure work throughout the east bank of the Flats and the next phase of the project will temporarily restrict West 10th Street between St. Clair and Main Avenues to local traffic only.  Effective May 20, 2009, the restricted portion of West 10th Street will remain a two-way street, but will only be accessible when travelling northbound.  Local traffic will only be permitted westbound along Main Avenue; Old River Road will remain accessible.

Pedestrian access along West 10th Street - including access to the RTA Waterfront Line station - is expected to remain available. Signage notifying drivers and pedestrians of additional closures, property access and traffic flow will be posted as the project progresses.

The Flats East Bank Development Project will repair and upgrade existing sewers and reduce the amount of combined sewer overflows (CSO) in the Flats. This project is a part of the District's Long Term Control Plan which will drastically reduce the amount of CSO into Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River.  Since 1972, NEORSD projects have decreased the total amount of CSO from 9 billion gallons per year to less than 5 billion. By 2036, NEORSD expects to have decreased overflows to 775 million gallons per year.
