    As the Ohio EPA develops new nutrient criteria for state rivers, WQIS is trying to stay ahead of the game by collecting baseline data to determine current trends in the Cuyahoga River. Crews studied sites around the Southerly treatment plant for chlorophyll a concentrations (an indicator of algal production) to identify factors affecting the growth of algae. But further data must be collected in 2010 to draw more comprehensive conclusions, the report said. ...

    The Sewer District recently released two stream reports focused on the aquatic life, habitat, and water chemistry along the Cuyahoga River and West Creek. The 2008 Cuyahoga River study shows improvements in fish health and pollution-reduction efforts, while the West Creek study was designed to set a baseline to determine the success of future restoration projects. ...
